title pretty much says it all. is it "worth it" to pay for the price of developer status just to download and play around with the lion preview? or, should i just wait for the official release?

Your action maps to selector doneAction: and not to the method body you posted for doneButton:

Is the exception that your target does not respond to the selector?

iPads don't come with owner's manuals -- in fact, can't remember the last iDevice that came with one! Anyway, I recommend that when you get your iPad, you download iBooks from the app store, and do a search for "iPad." Or if you prefer a physical book, you could go to Amazon and search for "iPad" in their books department. Either way, you'll find plenty of selections to choose from.

NightStorm, glad to see another fellow MacRumor member in my neck of the woods.
Likewise; there are a few of us on here, but not nearly enough. This release date is perfect for me as I had planned on taking the 26th off anyways since I have some extra vacation days to use before the end of the year. Figure I might as well make the trip up to the store and see what it's like for a product launch. :)

    (1) Not even close to every machine ships with a productivity suite... in fact, if you look closely at what you're paying for when you buy most PC machines, those products that "ship standard" with your fancy new PC are built into the price. Most customizable online shops (Dell, et al.) allow you to remove that software and lower the price. So obviously, they are not free.

    (2) iWork is undoubtably being groomed as a direct competitor to Office. There's no disputing that. It CURRENTLY is a replacement for AppleWorks, because it's still young and undeveloped in places, but it would be insane for Apple not to try and pursue part of the Office marketshare. It's an untapped resource, and frankly the Office programs are not very well constructed (with the exception of Excel). Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint are pretty lousy, and while Access is solid, it's certainly not leaps and bounds better than (PageMaker) <-- EDIT: Sorry, meant FileMaker.

    (3) Bundling software, and then looking for profit on the backend with upgrades is a reasonable answer to the question. There's something to be said for that. But in the end, I think you're comparing Apples and Oranges. While at current, iWork is undeveloped, it is (as I said) being groomed to be a full suite of productivity Apps. iLife is a wonderful package of Apps, but they do not replace Pro Apps. iPhoto is garbage compared to Aperture or Photoshop. Pages is certainly not garbage compared to Word, and Keynote is already a much better App than PowerPoint. So I think there's a flaw in the argument here...

This impresses me as distinctions without much a difference. The iLife suite now consists of several well-developed applications all of which are bundled. They didn't necessarily start out mature but they grew into maturity. (iPhoto was never conceived as a replacement for Photoshop btw.) Apple got Mac users accustomed to using them and can now successfully charge for upgrades. They could do the same with iWork.

This is how I think it'll work.

You'll search for a location and then you click "Photo's took in this location."
Providing people who've took photos in that location have shared there photo's.

Imagine searching Google Maps/iPhoto for Photos in your favourite nightclub?

As evidence that some rich people didn't earn their wealth, you just referenced Enron that went bankrupt, Madoff who went to prison, and the Banks who we bailed out... and would have otherwise gone bankrupt. So, essentially three examples where the free market either did or would have (without government intervention) correctly punished bad businesses. Odd choice.

Not really. I consider them vastly underpunished. Do you honestly think that all of the wealth that they stole went back where it belonged? How many friends, relatives, smaller investors and purveyors of luxury goods and services recieved a windfall from these criminals? The crime cannot be undone. They spread their ill-gotten gains around for some time and much of it cannot be recovered. Justice is only partially done at best.

Hardly. All I'm trying to do is better understand your position. You seem to take the position that the majority or mob rule can decide how much money to take from one person without inflicting the same on another person... in effect choosing winners and losers. Furthermore, you seem to not put any limit on this position so it would seem that you feel the majority has the right/ability to take as much money from 'the rich' as they choose to as long as they do it with a majority in the democratic process. This would imply that you don't think that the person who actually earned the wealth has any sort of moral or legal claim on the wealth. Please enlighten me as to where I am going astray in describing your position.

You love those loaded terms. If taxation is "mob rule", then we've been living under it since the 18th century. As far as "choosing" winners and losers, you seem fine with letting your vaunted "free market" do it; I happen to think that such a process is unjust if unalloyed with further means to prevent excess. The mere fact that a person makes a living and then some from the "free market" does not necessarily make them a legitimate "winner" with the strongest moral claim to all of their wealth. In fact, if you agree with the concept of taxation you already agree with this principle. Your "right" to anything is predicated on your ability to protect it, whether that be through legal processes, or through coercive force. Nothing in "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" specifically states that the top 1% of this nation ought own 50% of the wealth.

You are ignoring my point about how small cabals of wealthy and powerful people pay lip service to democracy and then do whatever they want - how is this somehow less of an injustice than the rest of us raising taxes on your beloved billionaires? Especially when you aren't one of them?

Finally, just because you have a legal or moral claim to wealth or property does not mean that you are the only person with a claim, or that your claim is the strongest. All Americans have a very strong moral and legal claim to being able to earn a living - but as wealth increases the moral claim weakens, to the point that the wealthiest people maintain much of their wealth not through any moral right but simply through their own ability to hang on to it. Your first dollar is very much yours - but your ten millionth is up for some debate.

4.3.2 jailbreak might be ready soon :)

    http://www.redmondpie.com/jailbreak-ios-4.3.2-untethered-confirmed/

Seems to be for All devices :)

Stefan Esser has just confirmed that his 4.3.1 untethered exploit still exists in iOS 4.3.2

So the untethered expoit that doesn't work on the iPad 2 still exists, that's hardly for all devices.

It's as easy to use as an ATM. They wouldn't even need to include instructions!

Just like most everything else, I trust Apple has thought this through a little more than our collective minds. They wouldn't put out something that wouldn't work.

Yep just got it. and this is exactly what I was talking about in my earlier posts. they are filtering it out on the backend and killed access to version 1.0 from the servers. Now I remember why and how much I hate cablevision
Damn useless limitations and whining networks stupid providers. I really hope all of them go down the flames with their idiotic restrictions and limitations

As in an M0001, saying just 'Macintosh' on it so predating the launch of the 512k and the rebrand/slight internal redesign to make the 128k proper. This is a fully functioning machine, in all its original packaging, all manuals and all original disks and cassette tapes (including MacWrite and MacDraw).

Completely misleading. iPad runs a mobile OS that's much less CPU intensive. The iPad is not five times slower in performing everyday tasks like web browsing, e-mail, word processing, etc.

I agree with you that for many of us who need only light use at work every day, the iPad is every bit the competitor to a lightweight net book type of device.

With these kinds of light, but urgent needs, the iPad can be a lot quicker to use than a netbook. It powers up instantly and allows you to to work quickly, then shuts down easily and quickly to allow you to get on with whatever else it was that you were doing in the field.

I'm not saying it replaces a net book or laptop for all of us or even most of us, but if your main purpose on a particular day makes carrying a heavier device difficult, or you are in the field and need something ultimately portable and sturdy, the iPad is a great thing to have around.

We're lucky we have so many great products to pick from, whether you're in the Apple camp or somebody else's camp.

I downloaded some games for my Android phone. Doesn't mean I play them. I'm sorry, but having a controller is a very serious must.

On another note not related to the above comment, I would like to read the comments from those who have never played video games on this site. Since it's something that I've been exposed to for so long, it's interesting to see how ignorant people tend to sound when they speak of things they are not familiar with.

I'd probably try a simple update instead of a clean install.

And considering that you've got a decent backup of your system (right? :D), it shouldn't be a problem if that goes wrong. You can still do a clean install in that case and migrate your data from your backup.

whats the risk if there isnt a backup?
