It's funny when Soledad asks if it can do email. She might have thought so because of its size compared with the Blackberry. And then she whips out the shuffle... OMG that is classic.

Does anyone remember Soledad in a kid's computer TV show some years back? She played a computer....

I love how the guy presenting the Zune was speechless after Soledad brings out her shuffle.:D

    Technically, it's a manual gearbox... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct-Shift_Gearbox)

It is... or perhaps more specifically semi-manual/semi-automatic of course. Though I think of it as a manual and not an automatic.

If this sounds strange, I had an old Beetle with a stick shift automatic.

The legendary semi-automatic Beetle... they were brilliant, clever for the time. IRS too... which eliminated the normal Beetle's tendency to tuck a wheel during cornering. :p

I don't understand this. Apple has carried a 20" monitor as their low end for two years. Why offer something even smaller after so long? This seems like a step backwards. Why not reduce the 20" to $399 and lower the price of the other two? Dell is putting major price pressure on Apple with their monitors; though they are not as good looking, the price has no doubt won over many would be buyers...not me of course. :p

Well, see... there's this little thing called market analysis and listening to the people you sell things to. I highly doubt Apple was sitting around going "we need to release something new because its been months. I know! How about a different monitor size!"

Why not reduce the 20" to $399? Why should they when they seem to be selling just fine at where they are?

Dell is putting IMAGINED price pressure on Apple with their monitors. Selling cheaper crap will cost you less.

As far as I know the "App Store" trademark hasn't been granted to Apple yet, therefore Amazon can use it for now. On the other hand Apple just cannot sit there and do nothing about it, they must deffend the trademark they are trying to register even if it hasn't been registered yet.

They should also be careful with their quotes in their financials. Tim Cook in the last conference call basically gave Microsoft and Amazon ammunition when he said things "We have the largest app store", making the term quite generic and descriptive. This doesn't help their case at all.

Do people seriously have that many songs?!!! seriously?!!!

220gb = 50,000 songs?!!!!! That is totally not necessary.

Apple discontinue that dinosaur! It makes you look bad to just have it on your website.

Why don't you go and buy a Zune. You would simultaneously improve the average IQ of both Zune and iPod users! :p

It just gets better when the OP insists on quoting images after starting a thread with that very rule written in it!

And posts the same picture of his setup that's in the last thread, in this one, despite telling everyone not to

not sure just off of that info. what system are you running it on? tell us what you did to get it going

ill try my best to explain haha.

its running off my imac i7 machine (in sig).

i ran fah6 and it went through everything, i signed up etc then went to download a new version from the server. it successfully did that but then it came out with the error that i displayed before.

so i closed it down and reopened. now i get this.

    [23:14:11] Client-core communications error: ERROR 0x7f

    but then it goes
[23:14:24] - Connecting to assignment server
    [23:14:25] - Successful: assigned to (171.64.65.56).
    [23:14:25] + News From Folding@Home: Welcome to Folding@Home
    [23:14:25] Loaded queue successfully.
[23:14:47] + Connections closed: You may now disconnect

but then it starts the whole loop again (wanting to download new jobs etc).

is there a GUI version lol i hate the command line interface!

edit: ok dw i installed the system preferences pane and now its running fine :D (didnt realise there was one!). is there anyway to control the amount of cores/CPU usage? and also to view the images of it computing? check your stats? hehe

my network usage is sitting on 9.4MB/s now. how odd....

The hondas I've driven from 02-06 (including mine) have all have very good engaging transmissions.

I beg to differ. Aside from S2000 whose transmission really is orgasmic, everything else from 2002 on I've driven by Honda was average at best. I drove an '07 Civic Si which was ok but nothing spectacular as well as '06 Accord V6 with manual. That one had a vague shifter that looked like an afterthought. Didn't like it. My daily driver is another Honda (Integra GS-R) and that car has an excellent shifter. But it was designed back in early 90s.

Another crappy shifter award: Subaru. Most Imprezas/WRXs I testdrove recently sucked with a passion. Only exception was one with the short shifter kit.

    Here we go again

    "what about windows being generic?!"
-well Microsoft isn't actually selling window panes

    "app store is generic"
-if it were 'mobile software store' or 'application store', it would definitely be generic, but 'app store' is arguable

"this is stupid, apple being such a girl"
-they've built a name with 'app store', and it would be to the competitions advantage to use it. Otherwise, they would just use something else.

"apple didn't invent the word app"
    -well they made it popular

"nuh-uh, I've been using app, since blah blah..."
-congratulations (but we're talking about millions, not 1 and a few friends)

Actually "windows OS" was a generic term to describe GUI OS - that is an OS that uses windows on a desktop for organization and simplicity. Yes, Microsoft Windows has nothing to do with window panes but in this case, they did trademark a generic term with the exact same meaning.

Playing that game with the HDMI dongle thingy hanging off an iPad looks, um, not ideal. Now, if it could stream it using AirPlay.

    I hope too.

I recall some of the naysayers around here not even a year ago stating that such a device would never be suitable for gaming. And here we are. With HD output to your TV.

    Vision, people. Vision.

Who would have thought that Apple would be able to start the underpinnings of a mobile console gaming like device, in only its second generation.

    Very nice.

What music genre do you dabble in? And what monitors are those? Do they sit that flush out of the box or did you hack the stand off in favour of some armature?

I'd say most of the stuff I do is indie rock, shoegazer and some electronic style stuff. No real strict genre.

I have two 24" HP monitors that are on their original stands and sit like that right out of the box. You can adjust the height but I like it at the lowest, that way I get a bit more sunlight in.

The other lone monitor is a 21" Viewsonic. That one I did remove the stock stand and now it's just sitting on a hard case that one of my microphones came in and is just leaning up against the wall. A bit ghetto but it doesn't look too bad.

I love these cars, i looked at the SRT8 model with the Hemi but UK + V8 = Bankrupt lol

    Matt

The Chrysler 300C SRT is a fantastic car, i think it was the summer before I headed into freshman year of college, when my buddy and i took his SRT to his lake-house. We got up to 167mph in his car on back roads, craziest/scariest/most fun experience ever. He traded that 300 in about a year ago for the Jeep SRT and man is that thing fun to drive....... Wish i could afford an SRT.:D

What did you unplug before taking the picture? :o
My SD card for my camera. :P
Looks like you do a fair bit of typing on that thing!
My old one started looking like that but then Apple replaced it with a new one. I bought a keyboard cover. Not because I hate shiny keys, but because hair and stuff was falling in the keys.

Here at school it is my only computer, and I used it almost exclusively last year because I was on the move so much. So yeah I guess you could say I do a lot of typing on here haha. :)

Apple has updated the Mac Mini to include all Core Duo models. Other than the processor upgrade, there does not appear to be any differences between the previous Mac Mini and today's release. The Mac Mini is available in two offerings:

    1.66 GHz Mac Mini
60 GB 5400-rpm SATA Hard Drive
    Combo Drive

    1.83 GHz Mac Mini
80 GB 5400-rpm SATA Hard Drive
    Superdrive

    Both models feature:
    -2MB Shared L2 Cache
-512 MB 667 MHz DDR2 RAM standard (up to 2 GB supported)
    -GMA 950 Integrated graphics
    -1 Firewire 400, 4 USB 2.0
    -Optical Digital/Analog Audio In/Out
    -Gigabit ethernet
-Airport Extreme and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR standard

Of note, the Mac Mini still uses Core Duo (Yonah), not the more advanced Core 2 Duo "Merom" chip found in today's iMac announcements (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060906091309.shtml).

    Try this...

Jobs described the Apple TV as his 'hobby' - Not a clever choice of words at the time the analysts thought...

Now take the outgoing Mac Mini, repackage and upgrade, dice it up with the Airport Extreme (with built in bb modem this time - please), add a little Apple TV '2', leave on gas mark 7 for 2 hours...

Total over the 'air' internal network with media storage and streaming capability and it's time to enter the full-on home multimedia market. Plus as a little bonus, movie and tv show rentals - watchable on your mac, itouch, iphone etc...

Actually, what the hell... They make Back to my Mac actually work and let you watch them on the road too ;-)
    :p

Another way to ask this question: If Apple decided to compete head-to-head with this feature, what should they do differently?

Here's the funny thing, I can tell you a feature is poorly thought out, even if I can't necessarily tell you how to solve it :) The fact that we don't have an answer is probably a good start on why the iPod doesn't already do it.

First thing I can say is this: Dump the idea of restrictions on non-DRM'd songs. If "the guy with guitar" wants to beam you his own song he should be allowed to decide that you can keep it as long as you want and send it to as many people as you want.

This goes back to the root of the problem with these devices and online stores: The record labels aren't worried about piracy, they're worried about all the guys on the street being able to bypass them by advertising virally then selling their own burned CDs. Sure it's only one or two now people now, but then it starts to grow, and some band ends up hitting it big and getting radio play, then everybody starts doing it, and then gradually the RIAA loses their money train.

They are making it sure look alot like the iOS. I hope they can put this OS on the iPad. :D
