I wonder if we will hit that point first or if cloning technology will make the point moot by growing fully functioning attachable limbs first.

Process 2 on my G4 is having the same issue
It is getting a 404 error on that process, and it won't turn in my previous work unit. All IP and internet connectivity is doing well. I will see if Process 1 runs into the same problem when it is completed.

Using VPC for Access is one of the good ideas.
However, MYsql is even better. My advice would be to buy a book, get caught up on the particulars, then get it. Also OS X has a great MYsql GUI-fied admin utility called YOURsql.
Open source baby!

I've got a 20" iMac with a 2.16 Ghz C2D processor, 2GB RAM and running Snow Leopard (10.6.7). I bought the computer new in late 2006. There is plenty of hard drive space left (196GB). The machine had no issues until last week.
Essentially last Friday I started experiencing a lot of hangups when using the machine. On a subsequent reboot, the dock completely disappeared and I could not recover it. Suspecting something became corrupted on the OS, I performed a simple erase on the Hard Disk, reinstalled the OS and restored my Time Machine backup. It seemed to resolve the problem.
A few days later, the symptoms returned. This time I repaired permissions and checked the hard disk, which came back okay. I also ran AppleJack with no success. It's not a user profile issue since the symptoms are evident on the new profile.
At this point I'm concluding the hard disk is going bad. Are there any tests I can run before I buy a new hard drive to install?
Thank you
Jesse

The VPN server is an AVM 7270 router/modem/voip box.
So you think she has to manually connect to the ip adress of my MacPro to be able to download files remotely?
How would I do this? Is it done in Finder somewhere?
In the Finder:
Menu Bar > Go > Connect to Server > Mac Pro IP or what ever the name of your machine is called Mac-Pro.local
And your done, might even bookmark it if you use it often.

I think the troubleshooting sections should be spun off to their own pages. That way it can be consolidated down to a single page.

I was alone at work so I wasn't aware that anything had happened to begin with. I only found out about it when my boss came back from a meeting and told me what she'd heard on her car radio. This was just before the first tower came down which, if memory serves, was about an hour-or-so after the initial strike.

(1) Not even close to every machine ships with a productivity suite... in fact, if you look closely at what you're paying for when you buy most PC machines, those products that "ship standard" with your fancy new PC are built into the price. Most customizable online shops (Dell, et al.) allow you to remove that software and lower the price. So obviously, they are not free.
(2) iWork is undoubtably being groomed as a direct competitor to Office. There's no disputing that. It CURRENTLY is a replacement for AppleWorks, because it's still young and undeveloped in places, but it would be insane for Apple not to try and pursue part of the Office marketshare. It's an untapped resource, and frankly the Office programs are not very well constructed (with the exception of Excel). Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint are pretty lousy, and while Access is solid, it's certainly not leaps and bounds better than (PageMaker) <-- EDIT: Sorry, meant FileMaker.
(3) Bundling software, and then looking for profit on the backend with upgrades is a reasonable answer to the question. There's something to be said for that. But in the end, I think you're comparing Apples and Oranges. While at current, iWork is undeveloped, it is (as I said) being groomed to be a full suite of productivity Apps. iLife is a wonderful package of Apps, but they do not replace Pro Apps. iPhoto is garbage compared to Aperture or Photoshop. Pages is certainly not garbage compared to Word, and Keynote is already a much better App than PowerPoint. So I think there's a flaw in the argument here...
The only ones who even remotely have iWork tagged as an office competitor are those hardcore mac users despise anything that doesn't have the Apple logo on it. It is a consumer application. If iWork is not shipped with every Mac, nine times out of ten they're going to buy some version of office because that's the standard that everyone knows. I used Claris then Appleworks until it got too far behind pretty much because it came with my Mac.
I agree that they'd be better off bundling iWork while it only consists of Pages and Keynote, as a taster for the eventual suite-scale upgrade. I have absolutely no use for Keynote anyway, so as far as I'm concerned, the money is just for Pages, which is not much of a sweetener compared with the Educational version of Office.
For those in an Office or College setting, there isn't going to be much defending against Office student and teacher. Most computer tasks are built around office. Add in the option of a more familiar interface option for word processing and light duty spreadsheet and database apps, iWork and the Mac would have a lot going for it over PCs with MS Works.

I'm upgrading my PC and I don't think I'll be needing the old parts. So I might be selling these parts. So here are some parts I'm considering to sell:
*Chaintech P4X400-VT8235 ATX Motherboard - 8x AGP slot, LAN, Sound, PCI, Two DDR RAM Slots
*Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.2ghz CPU (Socket 478)
*AverMedia PCI TVTuner with FM tuner and Composite & S-Video Video Im (Drivers can be downloaded online)
I'm not 100% sure if I'd be selling these but, I'd just like to know maybe how much these parts would go for. :D

After so many attempts of trying to restore it the ipad actually wouldnt turn on. Ended up taking it in and they were able to update it there. No idea what they did differently (all they did was connect it and for some reason it worked). Any idea why it would work on one computer and not another? Any idea on the actual cause of this problem?
Thanks for the replies by the way. Once the warranty expires if this happens again and I don't have an extra computer around I'll give tiny umbrella a try. So far owning an iPad has had some VERY frustrating moments.

All:
After applying the 4.3.2 hack I no longer have the Personal Hotspot feature in the phone. Does anyone have a means to recover this so I can use either mywi or ATT? I'm paying for tethering service.

As I don't like it when people vote on polls without explaining their vote, I will.
I gave the song two stars. I liked the intro, but once the vocals kicked in, I was lost. I'm not a fan of metal, not at all. Again, I really liked the intro, just very much not the singing. (Is that even singing?)

No! I'll look that up.
I think all the tracks on the 12" I bought are also found on Karn's "Dreams of Reason Produce Monsters" album. I'll have to dig my CDs out of deep storage and double check.
